Bright Swords and Shiny Teeth

The world is full of stupid people. A lot of them think they are smart, but it’s the thinking that’s the problem. I’ve been told I’m smart. I got put in special classes for smart kids (which I rebelled my way right out of) and I qualified for Mensa membership, but couldn’t muster up the $25 membership fee. I was smart enough to waste all of my school years, eeking a barely passing grade by acing every exam and never, ever doing any homework. I never paid attention in class. It would have interfered with the book I was reading under my desk. So I’m supposed to be smart. Many of the things I’ve done in life would support this theory, many more would argue against. Wizards and Warriors

Breathe out. All the way out. Hold it. Fight the urge to breath in. Fight it as long as you can. This is how you rehearse for death. Some day that in-breath won’t come. That’s reality for everybody. As long as you are living, though, that next breath will come. We breathe in, we breathe out. It’s easy to ignore the empty promise that lies at one end of that cycle. I often see arguments online about the approach to western martial arts. There is a great fear that the art of swordplay will be sportified, that we will once again lose the martial heritage of our ancestors. We want to test ourselves, and we want that test to be as true as it can be. Tournaments seem to be necessary for the growth of our art, but there is an itch at the back of the mind that warns…

Overlooked

Despite the lack of time, I’ve really been missing my blog posts here. I’m going to find a way to carve out a little bit of time so I can post more. To get myself warmed up, I started to re-read old entries. I checked in on my site stats as well. The blog has been wildly popular, but checking out the overall top posts inspired me. Lots of posts have been read over a thousand times, which is great…but I felt like some of the bottom posts were more interesting than there numbers indicated. For some reason some posts just faded away and were never really seen. Most of them were just filler, but some of them where ones I feel are very good.
