At Valkyrie Western Martial Arts Assembly, we are martial arts researchers. Our job is getting under the hood of effective martial arts practice, figuring out what makes it work, and using that knowledge to turn our students into the best fighters they can be. The training floor is our lab, and grappling, striking, and weapon work are our subjects.
We believe that good body mechanics and balanced strength are essential to injury prevention and longevity; that the best fighters are not the ones who know the most techniques, but the ones who can make what they know work in any context; and that everyone learns best when they are having fun. Our training emphasizes adaptability, play, and dynamic problem-solving, and our students are equally comfortable on the ground and in a swordfight.
Everyone should know how to fight. It’s a fundamental human skill, and one of the best ways to build a healthy relationship between your body and mind. Our classes are open to students of all abilities and experience levels; and all ethnic backgrounds, gender identities, and sexual orientations. Our goal is to help you become the strongest, fittest, deadliest version of yourself, no matter where you begin. Join us.
How long have you been practicing martial arts? Which one(s)? When I was younger, I did Taekwondo for a bunch of years, then stopped until I started sword fighting in 2008. Happy 2015! To kick off the new year, we’re adding another evening of classes to our weekly roster, and updating the weekly training schedule. As of January 5th, we will be moving our rapier and Beginner Program classes to Wednesday evenings, and adding a new Advanced Class on Thursdays.
