VioDy 2017 Instructors: Tammy Yard-McCracken

Welcome to our Violence Dynamics Vancouver profile series, where you’ll get to know our instructors and event organizers in the leadup to VioDy Vancouver 2017! This week, we’re introducing Krav Maga expert, tactical trainer, and all-around badass Dr. Tammy Yard-McCracken.

Dr Tammy Yard-McCracken, VioDy Travelling Circus member

Dr. Tammy Yard-McCracken is an internationally-recognized Krav Maga instructor, Conflict Communication facilitator, and professional counselor. She is the owner and chief instructor of Kore Krav Maga in Ashburn, Virginia, was the first woman to be certified as an instructor by Krav Maga Global (KMG) on the US East Coast, and heads the U.S. KMG Women’s Division. Dr. Yard-McCracken works closely with Rory Miller and Chiron Training, and was the first certified facilitator for the Conflict Communication program. She is also an instructor with the Silver Eagle Group firing range, and has worked with the Women in Federal Law Enforcement National Conference and the Crossing the Jordan Human Trafficking Recovery Program. Dr. Yard-McCracken holds a doctorate in holistic psychology and a bachelor degree in education, and brings a wealth of academic and technical training to her teaching.

Dr. Yard-McCracken’s insight into neurobiology and human behaviour makes her an invaluable asset to the Violence Dynamics team, and she brings a powerful perspective to all aspects of self-defense instruction. In almost 30 years of clinical practice, she has worked with survivors and perpetrators of all kinds of violence, including domestic violence, human trafficking, kidnapping, and gang violence. She has published articles on violence, personal safety, and socio-psychological factors influencing conflict and self-defense, and writes on these topics and more at Beautifully Dangerous.

She will be teaching the following courses at Violence Dynamics Vancouver:

  • Conflict Communication (Saturday, 9:00-12:00)
  • Strength vs Structure (Saturday, 4:30-6:00)
  • Cheating (Sunday, 2:30-3:30)
